Friends of FONELISCO

Again we would like to thank everyone who has continued to support our organization.  We are currently supporting 69 children who are all attending and doing very well at school.  We have found sponsors for all children enrolled in private school for the first half of the year and a couple for the entire year.  We are still seeking sponsors to support the second term of 22 children attending Sunrise Private Secondary School ($200 per child) and to support the entire year of three children attending government secondary schools ($20 per child).  We also need to purchase uniforms for two children ($20 per child).  If anyone is interested in sponsoring a child for school please get in touch with me and we will forward you the bank information for the school.  None of the children are provided lunch at school and purchasing school materials (books, notebooks, pens, etc.) has also been a struggle.  If you would like you can also sponsor a child to be fed ($1 per child per day) or for school materials.

We have not had an international volunteer since the beginning of December and therefore have been struggling to secure funds for rent of the orphanage and our food budget.  We expect to harvest about 2,500 kilograms of rice in June or July and that should alleviate many of our food struggles.  The children have been working diligently on the farm and soon they will see the benefits of all their hard labor.  We still owe $3,600 for the first six months of rent from this year.  We are trying hard to either start construction on a simple house for the children on our new land where the farm is or find a cheaper house to rent for the final six months of the year.  Any help that can be given to assist us in paying for rent is greatly appreciated.

We have confirmation that a volunteer from UK will be coming at the end of May, two volunteers from Germany will be joining us in the middle of July, and two volunteers from Austria will be coming in October.  We look forward to working with them and if anyone else is interested in volunteering for Fonelisco don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.
